Nikon Z5 / Z50-Zfc photos...the little brothers

I...This morning the Nikon site has a "Back-order" disclaimer on the Accessories page for the 18-140mm under the image of the HB-101 hood. Thanks, Nikon, for dashing my hopes yet again, and for hiring the dumbest Techs to run your online retail store.

PF

PF; Thom Hogan recommended these 3rd party lens hoods for the 16-50 & 50-250 which I ordered from Amazon. Links below, they were cheap and work fine! The link for the 18-140 is also below

if I hadn't purchased a refurbed (on recall) D750 for peanuts I would have bought a Z5. Probably the DX would have worked just fine. thanks for your effort and the fine photos posted.

Thanks for the links (I already have the 16-50 and 50-250 hoods). I took the time to give Nikon a call this morning, getting through really quickly. Explained my disappointment as to why they showed the HB-101 as being available when in actuality it wasn't, and also the fact I've been waiting over six months to get said hood. As usual, nothing came of it except I got to vent for a few minutes in a polite manner while still letting them know I'm looking elsewhere to purchase the hood. I'd like to get it from B&H because I was given a gift card that should cover the purchase in entirety, but at this stage of the game I wouldn't mind spiting Nikon by getting that JJC hood. Just not from Amazon (another outfit I refuse to do business with).

PF

Just ordered the JJC LH-HB101 off eBay, comes with a 62mm Polarizer, cap, and cleaning cloth for a dollar less than the Amazon advertised one. Also found it at Walmart for another dollar cheaper ($12.99) but didn't feel like opening an account with them. Should be here by the middle of next week, coming from Brooklyn, NY.

PF

It's here! The JJC LH-HB101 arrived with a Zeikos CPL, Nikon lens cap, and retaining strap (their description didn't match the photos). The hood looks very much like the Nikon original, and the CPL is okay.

The filter cuts through the haze to give more detail to the clouds.

The upper photo is with the CPL in neutral, and the lower photo is with the CPL dialed in.

You can tell it's working as the reflections on the car move from the rear to the front enhancing the real color, the asphalt is darker, and the clouds in the distance are more defined.

This was more a test of the lens since I haven't used it since it arrived over six months ago while I waited to get a hood for it. Very light weight, in a good focal length range, and has VR so there should be no issues when the wind picks up.

More panoramic goodness, this time at one of the local hospitals that is putting in a huge addition. Seven image stitch, and I hoped that the worker on the excavator load-out would have showed up more often (only two made it past the stitching phase), as he was in six of the images. Maybe if I did some strategic crops I could make an image with all six of him.

And an artsy look at the cranes.

The Z50 is really getting to be my go to camera for its light weight and the addition of the Z DX 18-140mm / 3.5-6.3 VR zoom.

If you need some help on the job, just clone yourself!

I took small slices out of the images used to make the original panoramic of the construction scene to make this smaller, close-in look at the worker as he made his way along an excavator while checking the tiedowns. Yep, that's five images of the same person. Only two of him made it into the original panoramic.

I've been drawn to the Z line since it was released, but mostly shoot BW film. Thinking I would try digital color, I just bought a Z5 and 40 f2.

I'm already waffling on the commitment to color. Not quite sure how this will evolve, but I'm very impressed with the camera.

One from yesterday at our annual all-night flea market:

Yeah, I really like the b&w images I've gotten so far, and that's without using the virtual filters. It just kind of depends what mood I'm in, or what the subject is. Cloudy days are when I'm more likely to use the monochrome settings.

The D750 remains a solid choice..

As per digital, I've got a D750 and a Z50, and unless I make a conscious decision to pack light, it's still the D750 that I pick up to do stuff..

I haven't gotten rid of my D300s' yet. It's looking like they won't be around much longer though. I got the Z5 as a refurb from NikonUSA.

I really enjoy the Nikon Zfc, and get a big kick out of folks thinking I'm shooting a film camera. A couple from last weekend.

Every time I see the new "all black" Nikon Zfc on the shelf at the camera shop I get excited! That is one nice looking piece of gear!

I don't need it, I don't need it, I don't need it...

All the best,
