Shoot a camera, not a gun

I don't think I can easily kill somebody with a camera, intentionally or on accident. If ten thousand people a year were killed by cameras, I'd probably think something was wrong with cameras, and question if the intended results of taking a photo were worth the consequences of having tens of thousands mortally wounded each year by cameras.

While it might be difficult to kill someone directly with a camera, there must be a reason why Spain is worried. Civilians have 4,500,000 guns (1 gun for every 10 people), carrying a firearm in plain view in public is allowed (with the correct permit), but they are restricting what people are allowed to photograph in public spaces.

Wau
in 2011 2,5 mio handguns went over the counter and 2,3mio rifles.

Hmm It amazes me you can have youngsters playing violent videogames, shooting automatic firearms and so on but it damages them if they happen to see nude people:confused:
Im gonna invade that nation using an army of naked soldiers and porn as a weapon of massdestruction :D
Best regards

... would you therefore want the kids armed, on the off chance one of those teachers go on a rampage? same logic no?

I knew a kid who was 16 at the time who was more proficient at handguns than most adults would ever reach. He could've competed at the national level.

There are more armed citizens than on or off duty cops are able to patrol.

Cops are there to enforce the law, not to prevent bad things from happening even though their presence may be a factor.

Tell me, who is responsible for you and your families' protection?

Luckilly thats not a problem here :D
My point is that being armed is in itself not the solution. You need the proper training not only on the range but also psycological to be able to stand on the recieving end of a loaded automatic weapon. How many people got what it takes to deal properly with that situation. How would you feel if one or more of your rounds went into the wrong body? Are you trained to see the situation before it evolve to something fatal? The policeman in the linked story apparantly had time, maybe the perp drew attention to himself etc.
Best regards

... yes, but will you all be safer if the restrictions on taking sharp objects on airplanes are relaxed?

We were able to carry knives for a much longer period pre 9-11 than post 9-11 with few incidents.

So yes, I would.

Then again, why not fly first class where they provide you real knives? :D

You seem to be avoiding addressing the question asked, and instead are quoting some anecdote that supports your case without reference to the actual issue

It's all mindset and appears many will cower at the mere mention of a bad word.

That's why I do more than shoot at paper targets. I compete in IPSC type shooting where I am able to shoot on the move and use proper cover.

Nice try, any chance of an answer to the question posed?

Your question is nonsense. No, school children should not be armed. The only way to protect them is to have trained adults (teachers or security guards) be there in case something does happen.

Better yet, we should close all schools and force them to be home schooled. This way, much fewer children will die. How does that sound to you?

No I'm happy with things as they are, I feel safe enough going about my business knowing that my police force will be trying to protect me from those pesky Rambo types ... and that all three parties are unarmed.

As Hteasley says you're banging your anecdotal head against a wall of statistics ... stay happy with your choice

Well, I am quite happy with my choice, thank you, sir. and I'm very glad that your are happy with yours. Mindful of the comment that there are "statistics and damn statistics," I'll leave you and THensley to ya'll's and I'll stick with mine, anecdotal or not. :)

Yup, I'm sure that a firearm death-rate of 9.2 per hundred thousand in the US, compared to 0.25 in, say, the UK, has been manipulated to obscure the truth, that the US is much safer.

How and why do you equate gun owners being the Rambo type? FYI, Rambo was a Green Beret and trained on how to use ASSAULT WEAPONS .

The murder rate is high because of culture which falls back onto improper parenting and the lack of supervision and morals.
Sorry, hadn't realized he was a real person. I thought he was a projection-fantasy for men with short willies.

Cheers,

R.

Repetition of unsupported assertions and personal beliefs does not constitute reasoned argument. Nor does capitalizing ASSAULT WEAPONS.
