I collect poodle corkscrews, actually. To be clear; corkscrews that are shaped like poodle dogs. I have 5 but I know there are at least 5 more designs out there that I have not managed to acquire yet.

Camera bags (doesn't everyone?)
Japanese handmade kitchen knives
Leica tripods
Black t-shirts

I used to collect Leica lenses and Rolex but that was before children....

I have a collection of fixed lens rangefinder cameras. But I didn't 'collect' them. Or did I? Hmmm

I actively collect current Canadian circulation coins. They happen to be found in my change, so are basically free...

I also have 5 bicycles, but none with any sort of pedigree.

I am interested in rare Chinese optical products and cameras. Many of them are Carl Zeiss Jena related so that I am also interested in Zeiss products. I don't think I am a collector, but if I saw something interesting, I would buy them, if not, I have no desire to hunt them.

Cameras and fly rods

Cameras and fly rods

Dear Board,

I collect cameras and fly rods. I could extend the latter part of that to fishing rods and fishing gear in general. Almost thirty years ago a buddy of mine told me what he said to his wife when she asked him why he had so many fishing rods, his reply, "You can't putt with a 9 iron."

I have two hobbies, photography and fishing. I'm way better at the fishing part than the photography part but I love to carry a camera while fishing. I've taken my buddy's reply to his wife to heart regarding the accumulation of both cameras and fishing rods.

Nothing I own is museum worthy, as most have been purchased used, and everything gets used on occasion. Unfortunately, none get used as often as I would if it had the chance.

Regards,

Tim Murphy :)

I collect photo books by a vast array of different photographers.

I also collect Dallas Cowboys football cards.

I do not collect cameras. At any given moment I usually have nor more than two of them, which I use.

I have collected to use:
Takumar lenses once I had started using Pentax dSLR, first rather S-M-Cs, then increasingly the early models until they became almost complete.
Once I had the Sony NEX5n aded a few SLR lenses from other makes, then collected Pen-F Zuikos and got 3 CV wide angles,
and once I knew that I shall go FF mirrorless some Canon RF lenses.

I have accumulated way more cameras than I'm going to admit to, but back in the 1980's and 1990's I did accumulate three groups of cameras that I would call collections. First are my Instamatic 126 film SLR's. They are Rollei, Contaflex, Ricoh, and Keystone. I don't have a Kodak or a Sears, which as I remember is a rebadged Ricoh or Keystone (too lazy to check it out). Next is my group of Kodak Instamatics not made in the USA. They are from England, Germany, Spain, and Brazil. Lastly is my Kodak Signet 35 collection. I have thirteen of them and they are all different, no two are alike! I know there are more variations possible, but I have no plans to look for them. The GAS is gone.

I collect all sorts of stuff. Cameras, yeah, obviously, but the acquisition urge doesn't stop there.

I own over 20 guitars, 7 motorcycles, probably a hundred fountain pens, and books -- geez, I must own over a thousand books on all subjects. I consider them all to be my personal library, and I do refer to it frequently. Oh and the wife and I both collect jade and Chinese porcelains. She's also into collecting stuff, but that's a whole 'nother world that I don't want to get into here.

Back to cameras, I don't really think of myself as a collector, even though I own some 30 cameras of all types -- excluding P&S models. Add another half dozen to the total if I include those. But I've picked up every single one of these cameras because there's something about them that I either prefer, or find intriguing about them. And so it goes.

Being here at the Rangefinder Forum and all, I will admit to a certain fondness for Canon rangefinders. Mine is a fairly modest collection: I have a P and two IIIa's, and four LTM lenses, ranging from 35mm to 135mm. I'd like to get a IVSb and a 7 one day and a Canon 50/1.2 just to have one. Forget about the 0.95 -- they cost too much now. The IVSb is identical to the IIIa, except it has that proprietary Canon flash rail, so there's really no practical reason for wanting one, other than the fact that my very first rangefinder was a Canon IVSb that I sold several years later in a moment of -- well brain farts, I'd have to say now. So I'd just like to have it back, as it were.

I wonder, how many of you have done that? Sold a camera that you found out later you shouldn't have, so you go back and buy another? In my current inventory, probably at least a half dozen cameras I own are re-acquisitions.

Over the years, Olympus OM system and Various Nikon SLR cameras and lenses. Also a small collection of Olympus clamshell compacts and a Leica M6 and 3 lenses. Latest obsession is Komine built Vivitar prime lenses in Nikon and Olympus fit.

Hard to be a collector when I've lived entirely in small apartments in NYC and LA. I have a lot of photography books, but never considered them a 'collection.'

I'm looking for something to collect, though, just to combat boredom. Something smallish, and inexpensive.

Expecting to acquire two or three new guitars shortly, but I only have one currently. Wouldn't mind having 6-10, though.

Want to get into LPs soon, too. Need a turntable first....

Vintage photographs, but anything I want will probably cost in the thousands....

Suggestions?

Hotwheels or comic books.

I used to collect quite a lot when I was a kid.
  • Anime Figures
  • Hotwheels
  • Casino Playing Cards (I have four of Wynn's hotel (Vegas) first edition playing cards)
  • Comic Books

Now, I try to collect old leica bodies and lenses. How is that going? Meh.

I just collect Negatives exposes by myself. And therefore I need some gear to do this. But there is a lot of lovely gear around :(
