Who remembers RFF when it started ?

I recall that as "wankers and fondlers". Pnet was a fun place until it wasn't anymore.
There were some very strange people there. I hadn't been there long when I started getting abusive PMs from some guy who took exception to me for some reason. That was the jumping off point for me!

I'd been here about a year when Back Ally got his first 10,000 posts, that's about 23 years ago IIRC. There was a long thread congratulating him, all except this one crazy guy who started up his own personal I-hate-RFF website (after he was presumably banned). It offered Multi-page rebuttals of various posts on RFF, l-o-n-g anti Back Ally screeds, and weird porn links. The RFF sure made an impression on him!

Good times, always liked the spirit here and still see a lot of the old names. Lost my account in the changeover, so I'm back to being a newbie now.
What the heck! That guy clearly had issues. (Anyone have a link to this site for uhhh research purposes?) :D

I was a long time Photo.net member since 1997 and contributed daily until a resident troll started harassing Leica users with never ending “dentist and fondler” posts. Don’t recall if Photo.net had moderators.
The anti-Leica trolls/reverse elitists were one reason why I stopped participating in the DPR forums. Every news announcement about a new Leica product was invariably answered with the usual dentists/fondlers/stupid-for-spending-money-on-overpriced-tech comments.

Some of us just save a bunch of money and buy secondhand to get the Leica experience, and we shoot the heck out of our cameras (not to mention fondle them when no one is watching). And why is it anyone else's business how we spend our money? Gah, don't get me started. So I found RFF to be a fine online gathering place.

Yes, but if you didn't have a real Leica (e.g. if you had a Hexar), you'd get bashed from the other side..

Frank Granovski’s photopoo.com remains available at archive.org. I don’t recommend looking.

Someone I encountered on photo.net hassled me enough that I considered taking legal action, and at least until I confirmed that they lived on another continent, considered moving and going totally off grid for a while. This person was properly disturbed. Who cares about cameras that much?

There was also someone who whenever there was any thread about anything, had the answer “FP4+ in FX-39 developed to print on grade 3 paper using a condenser enlarger”. They became quite enraged when I asked to see some low light stage photos of rapidly moving subjects taken with this combination (I was photographing bands almost every night at the time). They would get booted and reappear under another name. Crazy. In general the moderators and site admin there were not helpful.

Thank you RFF. The worst I’ve experienced here is someone marketing lenses by a recently emerged manufacturer making fun of me for being an old bloke who supports a “sort of backwards reddit from 2015”. I found that pretty funny to be honest.

Joined RFF in 2006. It was very nice, courteous and knowledgeable place. I enjoyed it immensely, still do.

Nenad Bojic was here at the time, NB23, if I remember correctly. Made really nice pictures but was strongly opinionated on anything :D

I miss Ned. But, boy, could he rub people the wrong way.

Some trolls have severe mental disorders, and just cannot help themselves. I had one consistent troll on Flickr years ago, wanted to be right about everything and was mean and nasty about it. The trolling stopped when he committed suicide.

Had the trolling continued after his suicide, that would have made him the ultimate troll. Even in death, he trolls...

Can't remember when I joined but did meet you at a breakfast gathering in Portland. Still have my RFF cap hanging on the hall tree.
