I need 300 pledges to buy a copy of my Milton Keynes book to be published

Vicky: that's good coverage. Not obviously spruiking but I could tell the journalist and the editorial position were both positive. That's good for you both in terms of your book and in terms of having been noticed by some of your local "powers-that-be". And that certainly can't hurt.

I'm in. Except I'm dim. My spouse's id comes up on the link. How do I register since I don't do facebook ...

Great! If you click the little "X" to the right of your spouse's name in the name box, that should give you an option to clear the form.

She must be logged into Facebook on her computer :)

Let me know if you have any issues,

Vicky

Hehe, I had to look up what Spruiking was! Yes I wasn't sure what the outcome was as I didn't know if they'd take it as an advert or what, or if it would read like a bad infomercial. All publicity is good publicity as someone once said!

Hopefully it will turn in an upswing!

That's (probably) American.

I never know with that kind of thing. I'm from a military-brat background, which meant I travelled the world before I even realised...

I can recall moving to LA (as an alleged adult), hanging out with the "foreign muck" (as if I had a choice: thrown in with Poms, Square-Heads, Clog Dancers, Frogs, Kiwis, South Africans and - this p1ssed them off - Hawiians) so I recognised the Australianisms by noting that nobody else understood them. Nobody understands? Well, that must be Aussie. As good a definition as I've ever had!

64 to go. There must be a few more takers. Surely it can't stall at this stage.

Not not at all, although the extra support could be very much welcomed.

I have a number of meetings lined up with museums and so forth to buy batches of books so I am confident that I will make that target of 300 more or less by the end of the month, I haven't been pushing it for the past week as I have been sorting out my holiday to Italy this June.

That said, if you can support, and are interested, please do because this won't happen this way without it!

Pleeeeeeease! :p

Come on everybody, register please, for one of our best photographers ....

Only 50 to go now ....

:)

Yep, 49 now! In theory that is actually 39 as I'm just waiting for MK Museum to register there 10 copies they are ordering for their shop, plus I have an exhibition at Milton Keynes City Discovery Centre (MKCDC or CDC) in a couple of weeks time where some of the pictures will be up, I'll be taking more pre-orders and generally just talking to folks. The CDC is a museum and archive which holds information from the Romans onwards (what with a Roman road, Watling Street, running straight through MK) to the present day, but it's the post 23rd Jan 1967 stuff they specialise in (new city history). Anyway apparently they also would like me to do a talk/lecture/ramble about in-consequence in the future, details to come, but first I have to think of what to talk about, and probably order a tweed jacket with leather elbow patches and look at how I can drop dichotomy, paradigm and profound into every sentence :p

Well I certainly couldn't ever claim to be that, but support for the book is always welcomed! Thanks for the kind comment, don't say it too much, it might go to my head!

Vicky

Registered. No problems helping a fellow photographer get some exposure.

That's great thank you ever so much.

In good news....
The book has the go ahead

Registrations are still welcomed so I can keep in touch with you on the process but the publication is expected to happen later this year for release in November, in time for Christmas.

I will keep peeps in touch on this thread but registering if you have not already will allow me to email you directly on occasion to keep you in touch with progress.

:D

Thank you to everybody's support so far, I have been amazed and hugely flattered, thank you.

Vicky

Great news Vicky...I knew you would get it done, so I'll be waiting for it's release near Christmas...cool!!

Thanks everyone for your nice messages, I can't deny it definitely adds to the feeling it was all worthwhile. Now just the small matter of putting the book together, writing a foreword etc., getting Derek Walker to write his piece etc. etc. :)

Got one of the very last pictures I will take as a part of the project back today which for me wraps it all up nicely.

(The red balloons are a reference to a mid-1980s advert aired on television to attract people to move to MK which involved a lot of school kids from MK at the time, many of whom remember the day off school...

One of the press-shots from the balloon release in the National Bowl in MK, 1985)

Would have preferred to take this photo on my Autocord but it was being serviced (had to be, the aperture was jammed) but still, 400NC + OM2n + MIJ 50mm f/1.8.

I'll still be taking registrations on the website and will soon (this weekend) send my first update email around.

Thanks again,

Vicky
