This way we'll have enough time to shoot for the theme and to submit pictures.
What do you think, guys?

I agree.

If others also agree that means in about a week we'll have a February 2008 theme.

So what we need now, or in a few days, is the January 2008 theme.

. . . And I poked around in available free software for a function to transform negative to positive-- no luck. . .
I suggest the Gnu Image Manipulation Program, generally known as Gimp. Found via the project website <www.gimp.org> where there is also a link to a front-end using standard(-ish) photoshop key shortcuts, handy if you know your way around that non-free program. The standard version works great for me and has a huge userbase with plenty of tips and instructional material.

Maybe I will be in the comp next month, meanwhile I need to go and vote. Good luck all !

Happy new year etc.

Crawdiddy: Thanks!

I've been out of town for the last couple of days (w/ access to a slow internet connection only), but I'm back now and have voted.

Looking forward to next month's theme!

Since No. 9 link doesn't work, who's/what shot was it?

Or can I use deductive reasoning to figure this out for myself?

EDIT- Nevermind...the second post is updated with all the photos. No. 9 is Memphis' photo. I did my part and voted at least. Good luck to all who participated!

Instead of sitting and reading these posts, I should be out looking for some shots!,- but I'm suffering from a severe assault by Jack Daniels, these last two days! .......that's my excuse! .......what's yours? :D

Dave.

Marvelous idea. You are pushing me to go to the local disco-bar and shot the Beatles, or Elvis? I like that. Never been there

New account, new avatar!

First, don't forget to vote.

Now, let's talk about the rules of the Magic Roll RFF Contest 2008.
Here's a draft. Rule #2 is out of discussion (Jan, we've carefully considered your suggestion, but we stick to the "only RF" rule).
In particular, what do you think of rules #1 and #7?
Thanks for your help.

1. One submits only one picture per month. In order to make submission anonymous, one sends us one’s picture at this address: magic.rffcontest [at] gmail.com We will store the pictures on a RFF account (The Magic Roll), and link them to this thread.
2. Pictures have to be taken with a RF exclusively, film or digital.

3. The size of the picture should not exceed 800 x 800 max, but should not be smaller than 600 x 400 either. (So 800 x 600 is fine, as well as 600 x 500 etc. but not 400 x 400 or 800 x 1200 etc.)

4. One is expected to specify the camera/lens/film used.

5. One can submit one’s picture from the 1st to the 25th of each month.

6. From the 25th to the 30th / 31th of the month, we take a vote on the best picture.

7. One votes by giving points to one’s favorite pictures as following:
picture # x = 3 pts
picture # y = 2 pts
picture # z = 1 pt

One has to pick 3 pictures and gives them points, unless there are less than 3 submitted pictures.

8. The winner carries off a fantastic prize: A MAGIC ROLL OF FILM!!!

9. The winner sets the theme for the contest of the month (x +2), eg. the winner of the January contest chooses the theme for March, the winner of February the one for April and so on.

10. Optional: the winner is expected to post some pictures taken with the magic roll.

Very nice idea, thanks Marc & Nzeeman for holding this contest.
I hope to have something decent to post for the "family" theme.
Ciao

I think that it's a good idea for us to view entries without knowing who posted them. But, are you thinking of making anonymous entries optional, or must all entries be made this way?

Dave...

Dave...

Hello Dave, If we keep this rule, it will be mandatory, not optional.
My only concern is about how easy it is for you guys to send your picture to an email address instead of posting it directly in the thread. I know how lazy we can be sometimes (well I'm one of the laziest  ) ... so I don't want to burden you with this submission process, but there's no other reasonable way to implement anonymity.
If you are ok with rule #1, we keep it. If you don't, please suggest another reasonable/easy/feasible way to make submissions anonymous.
Best wishes,
Marc

I like the anonymous submission idea Marc. Thanks to you and nzeeman for taking the initiative to make this little contest happen. I also like the scoring system, for what it's worth.

Now to get to work on either finding or shooting my image to submit for January.

Thanks Marc and nzeeman for your thoughts. I think, it can be fair if the winner will be responsible to send the Magic Roll to the next winner.
Any more ideas about?

Interesting, I like it. But I fear it will discourage people to participate in the contest :( I don't know whether I'm pessimistic or just lucid about human nature.

PS: but if you or someone else are willing to share the burden of sending the prize, you are welcome ;)

Just looked and Feburary has 29 days this year.(leap year) So we will have 4 days to vote in Feb. All the rules seem fine to me. Should be no excuse this comming month.:)

Read the book 'Pay It Forward' (or see the movie).

The book is better than the movie.

Marc, don't be pessimistic. I think is is fair enough. The winner is no doubt responsible.
