Voigtlander Heliar Classic 50mm f1.5

Great shot, clearly the spherical abbaration is seen (the softening of the outside contours of the flute player and the cellist) it is as if the music brings tears to your eyes.

It is a family tradition when I get a new tool (toy!) first photo must be of my wife! This is a quick portrait with my new Heliar 50 1.5 VM Classic . I bought the lens planning to use it on my M7 with B&W film but as first test to know it a little bit I used the M10!
I need to order some chemicals before to photograph with film again !

Anyway here is picture # 1 , full open of course

Very impressed with this portrait, Robert. I may reconsider my for sale ad in classifieds…

Again my wife, here at the Forst Restaurant in Trento.
This photo required some postprocessing because in order to protect the highklights tha M10 underexposed the frame.

Again full open 1.5, 200 iso, 1/750 sec

Beautiful shot! Great bokeh! Wonderful colors!

Don't sell this lens. It is unique.

So yesterday my wife and I went to Santa Cruz, CA, to see our son in law play a gig with the band he had played with in high school. I took along the Heliar Classic 50/1.5 on my ME-240. Before going to the concert, we went to the Santa Cruz Boardwalk with our daughter and granddaughter, and I took advantage of the scene there to take some street photos in both bw and color. It was a very sunny afternoon and I shot the Heliar Classic stopped down a bit for most of these. First, some sample bw shots...

Here are some color photos at the Boardwalk. The first was shot stopped down at about f.8; the second and third shots were taken at f.4. I have not adjusted the color, although I did make some adjustments in LR for exposure and clarity.

That evening we went to the gig at a Santa Cruz nightclub. I tried to shoot wide open as much as I could, but found it difficult to nail the focus (I had the iso cranked up to 6400) and wound up shooting at f2.0 and f2.8 to get a little depth of field. I'm finding that, at f1.5, the Heliar Classic's depth of field is very shallow; that's part of its charm, but also makes for tricky shooting in dark settings and with moving subjects. I like the way the Heliar Classic handled colors from the concert lighting; I have not adjusted these other than for exposure and clarity.
