Road Trip 2019: M8+ Hologon

Raid, did you use the lens with or without the filter? I remember when they closed them out and I kept going back and forth about picking one up and finally passed on it my mistake. I am now using a 10-18 on my A7s for crazy wide stuff, hard to get it right but when it works it's really nice.

I always use the graduated ND filter with this lens. There is still some vignetting seen when on the M8, and definitely when on the M9. Some Hologon users prefer not to use any filter and they want the vignetting effect in their images.

OK. I'll get it strait. The king is naked. On many images in this thread left side is kinda crappy. Purplish.
It doesn't matter which camera is this. CornerFix could fix this very visible defect. Without it, it just looks crappy.
Sorry.

That's not bad for basically out-of-camera original captures, Raid. The Hologon performs pretty well on the M8/M9 sensor. Many can be corrected to look far nicer, but it's interesting to see what the uncorrected results look like.

It's also nice to see another fine ultrawide ... You'll have to develop your own style with it, I think from these photos you have plenty to work with! :)

Thanks Godfrey.
I will use this lens also with a film camera for nicer looking results.

20-21mm is a great focal length for conveying a sense of what was there, and you've worked with that really well. I had to do the calculations for effective field of view when I realized the Hologon was on the M8, as it didn't look like 16mm to me. Very cool images, Raid.

Very nice. Is this the G16 converted or the 15mm Hologon? Were the photos taken with the center filter?

Thanks. I wanted to try out the Hologon on the M8 after Lynn commented one day that he would not go wider than 21mm.

This morning, I set aside the Hologon in my closet, and I returned to my regular setup of using the rigid summicron on the M8 and the 35 Lux on the M9.

Thank you Ray.
I have the 16/8 for the Zeiss G system. Don Goldberg converted the lens to M mount.
The filter was used in all photos here. There is still some vignetting left.

A small island that we reached from Bergen with a boat tour. It was windy and cold.
