X-pro3 & state of the digital camera

If you want to use M mount lenses get a Leica M.

I have the M adapter for my XP3, but after the initial test of it, I don't use it anymore because the Fuji works so much better with Fuji lenses.
Same for all my other Digital cams. The adapter idea is fun but you get much better results using OEM lenses.

Fuji lenses (as wonderful as they are) cannot give me the "look" that I want. I try to keep my work consistent and have a set of lenses that I like and use. I tried X-H1 and adapted my ZM Planar 50mm on it, the results were spectacular.
And I do use M-lenses with M-bodies so Fuji is no upgrade to me. I am not nagging the camera itself, I am just saying that it would not work for my taste

You certainly were nagging the camera (you called it pointless) and all because you want to use third party lenses...

Is 1500 USD significantly higher than used M240 price? Not really.

Believe it or not we don’t all want a Leica M. I’d rather use the X-Pro. As far as the rest ... just your typical rant on FujiNofilm ;) ... very predicable.

My X-Pro3 and X100V finally arrive to me in Chile this week. usually, I'd travel to the US and buy there. BUT Covid-19. That is one thing I miss about the US... you can get any camera at any time. Here, we are low down on Fuji's priority list. I'm sure I'll love the X-Pro3...

Somehow this little tidbit of good news slipped by me.

Congratulations, jsrockit, you waited such a long time. I hope you find the wait was worth it and that you are not disappointed; somehow I think you won’t be.

All the best,
Mike

Thank you guys... it’s another x-pro, how can I be disappointed? :) I’ve been using them since day one of availability about 9 years ago. I kind of know what I’m getting.

Recently, I was looking at X-Pro2 with 18mm lens as something much reasonable in price and with more versatile in not better OVF.
I'm not sure if downgraded OVF in X-PRO3 gives it state of the art. Fancy fake film label on the back is cute and artsy. Sure. Presets been better than SOOC is new dogma, it seems.

Cameras are still needed for professional photography and those who wants more than mobile phone. Are those with DSLRs and big zooms on sport events are going to ditch for this cutie? I'm not sure. They might prefer cleaner high iso on current FF DSLRs.
Do those who wants to get something more advanced than mobile phone need something which feels like multi-dial chronometer with deep menus? I'm not so sure either.

Fuji is also missing IBIS in such large for APS-C sensor body to be state of the technical art.
To me this camera feels more like slightly overpriced, slightly not as shaped as Leica statement rather than utility.
I prefer less menus and fully rotating screen instead of oddly oriented screen and something I need 10% all of the time as main screen of tiny size.

X-Pro3 is 1799 USD, maybe already possible to find used, but I'm not sure if used ones are dipped down in price as low as X-Pro2 (bellow 600 USD).
Is 1500 USD significantly higher than used M240 price? Not really. But technically so-so cameras as CL/TL2 seems to be too expensive, not only for body itself, but mostly by out of average income price range on nothing special and limited lenses.

And thumbs down for video, BTW. Lousy photography and fashion, rather than technical statements. IMO.

The x-pro2 is cracking value second hand at the moment. It's worth noting that the x-pro3's viewfinder is actually bigger and better as long as one is using the 23mm or 35mm lenses - otherwise it may have less functionality for others.

The other thing to note is that sports photographers are actually a pretty small group within the industry (and definitely none of them are using x-pro's). I know several editorial and commercial photographers and journalists that either use X-pro's as second or main cameras, and certainly the wedding industry loves them too.

I actually see the x-pro3 as an 'advanced amateur' device - and I would predict that's where a lot of the sales in standalone digital cameras will go in the future. Users that aren't necessarily professional, but want a camera that is specialised and gives them an experience different to that of a phone or a 'Swiss army knife' camera.

I've seen this in a couple of threads now, Leica users who are keen to rubbish Fuji cameras in threads discussing Fuji. Not sure why this is?

It's because people approach the camera as a leica replacement or substitute. It's more like a Contax - like I said earlier in the thread.

I agree. People want a cheap Leica ... but there’s no such thing (other than used Leica). It leads to disappointment.

Thanks for picking on my comment :)

I am not rubbishing the camera. What I am saying is that in my scenario with adapted lenses having OVF is pointless. If you are in the Fuji system, it's a different story.

Fujifilm makes great cameras, probably the best digital cameras for the masses. I have worked with the few of them over the years. As a company Fuji is also very good. Great customer care (leica gr grrr) and they do listen to their users. So, is Fujifilm x-pro3 a great camera? - Yes. Is it great for me? - no.

Dude, why you have to go personal?
I was only replying to OP where he compared x-pro3 to Leica, not me.
I use Olympus m43 and Canon DSLRs just as often as Leica. So my comment was more on comparison with Canon simple bodies and Canon simple menus.
FF RP is 999 vs 1799 for X-Pro3. RP works with huge amount of EF AF lenses which are not expensive or next to free. To me it is no brainer. But I don't need retro dials, I still wear analog, mechanical watches. :)

I would say it's a camera that encourages the user to use it in a certain way, and that lends itself to specific strengths and weaknesses - the OVF and the hidden screen being the two main features. Maybe it's just me, but I find myself shooting x-pro/x100 series cameras in the same way I shoot my film Leica, when as I tend to shoot DSLRs a little differently.
Your words are vague to me. What exactly are the shooting differences? To me a camera is my personal imagination capturing Box. Technology differs but results are basically the same.:)

No hate for that Akiva! I'm not personally of the 'the camera is just a box' group - different cameras change the way I shoot and thus the photos I take quite a lot. Hard to quantify it, but obvious when I look over my photographs.

To quote Araki -
"If you want to change your photographs, you need to change cameras. Changing cameras means that your photographs will change. A really good camera has something I suppose you might describe as its own distinctive aura" - Nobuyoshi Araki

re: video in op, boy do YouTubers have to go lengths these days to differentiate themselves from the rest, this reviewer dressing himself as a Blade Runner character... for a camera review video...

Fair enough... I did add a wink and you’re tough, so I thought it would be ok. I sincerely apologize... I’m just a Fuji fanboy hahaha... and for me, the way the camera feels in the hand is just as important as the results. And I do prefer a dedicated top shutter dial, aperture rings, but with AF for how I photograph. There aren’t too many
Options outside of Fuji. Let’s be honest... they all are capable of great photos. And yes, I will pay to have exactly the camera I want even if it isn’t perceived to be the best deal by others. Being thrifty is practical and there are certainly times where I have to be practical, but sometimes practicality is boring. I mean, you use a Leica... it’s not exactly practical.

I can give one... I’m the type that only brings the camera to my eye to make the photo. I never make my shutter speed and aperture choice when looking through the VF. In this way, having old school dials with markings on them is preferable to the way most cameras are these days. Of course if you make your decisions while viewing through the VF... the newer style dials found on most cameras will be preferable. Another thing is that, for some reason, I prefer a camera without a big grip. It seems silly but they affect the way I photograph. Will you see it in the results? You won’t... but I know how it affects me and being happy with a tool goes a long way.

I think if Fuji X-Pro or Leica M ever gained mainstream popularity, you guys wouldn't feel so special anymore :D

I don't know where it's all headed or why, but I speculate that people have started to make the connection between the environment and personal lifestyle choices. In any event, I think supplies of many items are constrained right now: I note that as of 7/8, B&H's prices on Sony's A7R IV and Fujifilm's GFX50R are actually higher than they've been in some time.

You bought M mount lenses to use exclusively on Fujis?

The look would be different on a crop sensor due to the crop..

Also, the EVF on the XP3 has the same resolution as the XH1, so if you liked using it on the XH1, the XP3 is the same if not better due to other advances.
