Ricoh annouces GR IIIx

Just a quick addition to this thread...I received my GRIIIx from Ricoh after a pre-order (here in the USA). I've had it a few weeks now, and full disclosure I've had the original APS-C GR since it's inception in 2013 (the original was of course 28mm FoV AND a flash!).

This new one is ALMOST exactly what I wanted. I really desire a digital Contax T3, so the 40mm FoV is better/perfect for me. I'm already missing the onboard strobe, but the files are fantastic, as are the jpegs. I have to say...my iPhone is a sketch camera...I can really make photographs with the Ricoh(s).

Cool, I received mine as well last week. Only one photo to show so far... from Santiago, Chile:

Those are some incredible shots, David!

I've had mine now for almost a month, I've already made some photos I really like with it. As I expected, muscle memory got thrown for a loop at first but now it seems a lot more natural to frame for the different focal length. The lens is even sharper than the GRIII. Optically superb. I'll get some shots up soon.

Any of you own both III versions? If so, how do you find working with them?

I'm drawn to the X, but I really like how this camera eliminates gear decision-making.

Long time admirer of your work John.
Based on such, I would guess you and the IIIx would suit each other very well.

Thank you. I'm sure I'd enjoy it, but I've always been a one body-one lens kind of shooter. It probably sounds silly, but I'm concerned that carrying both could be distracting. Probably best just to try it for a while.

I have both, but almost never take both out at the same time. I gravitate to the 3x, as I like the focal length more. But, I’ve recently got the wide angle attachment lens for the GR3, and while it is no longer pocketable, it’s pretty fun to shoot such a small, 21mm equivalent camera/lens.

I no longer have the III, but if I did I don't think I could juggle between the two. They feel exactly the same, and as such small cameras with limited haptics, I feel like I would confuse them all the time. Owning both and just picking one to slip into your pocket would be the way to go, I think.

Thanks, guys. Much appreciated. I ordered the X Urban Edition.

I've got a week in Tucson coming up and will take both along. Looking forward to trying 40mm and will share here when I get back.

John
