Show us your Leica M5

Sherry updated the battery voltage in mine and gave it a much needed CLA, too. She did a fantastic job. She is such a hoot! Great camera - and one time the most avante-guard models Leica manufactured.

Thanks guys for posting your past and present M5's but where's all the others?

Is there no love for the M5???

Love mine. Bought new in 1976 from Cambridge Photo. My first Leica. Had it CLA'd about two years ago and it feels like new. I've been using a Contax G1 a lot lately; picked up the M5 the oter day and put it to my eye. What a beautiful finder, especially after using the G1.

every time i think of selling mine, i pick it up and remember that it's got some phenomenal qualities. i adore the finder. it's just not like the other Ms.

My second M5 body, acquired from Dan Tamarkin, fitted now with a nice Zeiss Biogon 35mm f2.

My first M5 body, shown with a lens I enjoy: a Nokton 35mm f1.4.

I have one that gets weekly use, battered and in bad need of a CLA but I love it. The M6 has been sitting on a shelf for the past 6 months, should really get rid of it..

I go through phases... For a long time, either of the M5 bodies above has left the house with me for walks or just for fun. Before that, my Nikon S2 was my constant companion... :)

Thanks for posting the pic! I'll keep my eye out for one of these grips.
It would be nice to have when using the 35 Nokton and a couple other large lenses.

It really handles perfectly with the Rapidgrip. The only downside is changing the film as the grip then covers up the latch for the bottomplate. Thus my hacking a regular M grip screw- no need for a coin when changing film.

I'll play. The M5 is much underrated IMHO. I eventually succumbed to the love for it here on RFF. Really like the finder wizardry and the vertical hang. Size increase is not a problem when you have a pet ant to carry it around....

I've just treated the Leica M5 to a Serenar 85mm f/2, with viewfinder, hood, caps and case.

Trouble is, it's quite heavy, so I decided to make my own thumb grip, based on the design of the'Thumbie' that I loved on my old M8.

Problem sorted as it solves the difficulty I found gripping the camera in one hand - I don't like putting all the weight on the film advance. And no, it doesn't get in the way of winding the film on.

After studying the thumbrest for a bit, I thought it looked too agricultural. So here's the mkII version (the same one, just sculpted a bit).
