That is one of the best Portraits of your wife that you've ever posted.
And I'm not saying that just because I made the lens that you used...

Thank you Brian. I try to capture a natural look with pastel colors by shooting in the shade with such a lens wide open. Thanks! That is one of the best Portraits of your wife that you've ever posted.

Steve, you are one of my favorite shooters here at RFF.One of my favorite Sonnars… maybe THE favorite… is the Zeiss Opton Sonnar 5cm f2.0. I love how much detail the lens resolves and the roundness, 3D quality of the images. Here are some examples in black and white:

You know best how to expose your film and you know best how to process what you've shot.
Beautiful tonality, shadow detail without blown highlights ...Bravo!

Wow! Thank you so much for that comment. I keep trying to improve how I practice photography and it’s gratifying when someone expresses appreciation for what I’m trying to do.Steve, you are one of my favorite shooters here at RFF.

Great thread! I posted this photo on one of the Contax threads and thought it deserves a post here too, showing the character of the CZ Sonnar 1.5 at f4.
I'm pleased to now own the Opton version of this lens too thanks to rff member milescl.

I finally picked up an Amedeo adapter a while back and I've really been enjoying using my old pre-war Zeiss Jena 50/1.5 Sonnar (a 218xxxx) on camera bodies that don't drive me nuts. And for an uncoated lens, it certainly has more than enough contrast!

I haven’t added any photos to this thread from the modern Zeiss C-Sonnar 50mm f1.5. Here are a few…

I have posted this one somewhere on this board but am vain enough to do it again. This is US 93 running south form Ely, NV, to L:as Vegas, NV. It is a beautiful ride and I caught this view as the sun was coming up behind the eastern hills at the side of the highway. The usual M-9 with the CZJ 5cm f/1.5 272nnnnn. I really like the Sonnar color and modeling. The lenses make nice pictures.

Here is an old one with the CZJ 5CM f/1.5. As I shoot color almost always color is important to me. This old (1941 I believe - Carl Zeiss serial numbers - Camera-wiki.org - The free camera encyclopedia) CZJ has that Sonnar magic with color and shape. It is of hulls up in drydock, "on the hard", and allows capture of soft curves and subtle shading. Whether the lens is old or new if it cannot do this it is not interesting to me. This lens is interesting. ;o)
Why do I take so many pictures of boats? It's what there is a lot of around here. Astoria is coastal, on the Columbia River, and about 12 - 14 miles from the Astoria Bar, that scary portal we have to the Pacific. The woman on the flying bridge is checking me out as a very possible future miscreant. Sorry to disappoint.
M9, CZJ 5cm f/1.5, f/4.0, ISO 160, 1/2000

This house is in the Alderbrook section of Astoria, an area of interesting homes. It is no longer the Naval Base Cash Grocery but is painted to reflect its past when it was. During WW II there was a lot of Navy here. Their old housing became Coast Guard housing and is now low income housing with about a fifth of Astoria living there, Emerald Heights.
This house went from grocery to civilian home, a pastor's home and now back to just ordinary folks. It's great the current owner keeps up the tradition. I threw in the mirror on my car at no extra charge. ;o) Again, the CZJ 5cm f/1.5 272nnnn, f/4.0, ISO 160, 1/1000. This 80 year old lens does color and shape so very well.

I like that lens! And I'm very happy you like it too. It led a very rough life, but is feeling much better now.
